National Guard to Land Blackhawk Helicopter at Two Medford High Schools for Career Event

Medford, Oregon- The Oregon Army National Guard will conduct a helicopter landing at two Medford high schools on Wednesday, April 23, as part of a career exploration initiative aimed at students. A Blackhawk helicopter is scheduled to land at South Medford High School (SMHS) and North Medford High School (NMHS) during school hours.

The event is designed to give students firsthand exposure to military aviation and careers in emergency response and public service. Organized in coordination with school officials, the visit includes opportunities for students to observe the aircraft, speak with National Guard personnel, and learn about the Guard’s roles in both military operations and civilian emergency response.

According to Senior Recruiting and Retention Non-Commissioned Officer SFC Andreason, the event is intended to build awareness about career paths that students may not typically encounter in a classroom setting.

“This is more than just an exciting moment for our students—it’s a chance to spark new career interests and showcase how the Guard invests in youth education and development,” Andreason said.

Students will be briefed on the Blackhawk’s capabilities and the roles of aviation units in responding to emergencies and supporting community needs. The initiative is part of the National Guard’s broader outreach efforts to engage with local schools and support workforce development.
