Head-On Collision on Crater Lake Highway Under Investigation

Medford, Oregon- Emergency responders were dispatched earlier today to a head-on motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Crater Lake Highway and Justice Road.

Personnel from Mercy Flights Inc., Medford Fire Department, and Jackson County Fire District 3 arrived on scene shortly after the incident was reported. According to initial findings, a silver 2007 Land Rover traveling northbound crossed the center median and struck a blue 2022 Hyundai sedan head-on.

The driver of the Hyundai, a 25-year-old woman, sustained serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Her current condition has not been released.

The driver of the Land Rover, a 56-year-old man from Albany, Oregon, was detained at the scene on suspicion of driving under the influence of an inhalant. He is being investigated for DUII, reckless driving, and other potential charges.

The Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction (STAR) team has been activated to assist in the investigation. Officers are continuing to collect evidence and are working in coordination with the Jackson County District Attorney’s Office. Any criminal charges will be determined upon completion of the investigation.

Authorities note that the process of crash data collection and analysis is ongoing and can take an extended period to complete.
