U.S. Marshals Return Fugitive to Southern Oregon Following International Apprehension

San Francisco, California– The U.S. Marshals Service has returned Shawn Christian Higbee to the United States after his apprehension in Cambodia. Higbee, who had been wanted in Josephine County, Oregon, on a charge of Sodomy 1, was taken into custody on December 17, 2024, and has now been lodged in the Josephine County Adult Jail.

According to the Josephine County Sheriff’s Office, Higbee had been evading authorities since 2019. Over the past several months, a sheriff’s office crimes analyst collaborated with the U.S. Marshals Service (USMS) to locate him. The analyst determined that Higbee had fled to Cambodia, where he had been living for several years. Using investigative techniques, the analyst pinpointed Higbee’s exact location and provided that information to the USMS, which then coordinated with international authorities.

On December 17, 2024, Higbee was taken into custody in Cambodia. After his arrest, he was held in a Cambodian jail pending extradition. The U.S. Marshals Service then facilitated his return to the United States, where he arrived in San Francisco before being transferred to Josephine County.

Higbee is now in custody at the Josephine County Adult Jail and is expected to face prosecution. The sheriff’s office has not released additional details at this time.
