Cold Weather and Wind Advisories Issued for Jackson County

Medford, Oregon- The National Weather Service has issued a Cold Weather Advisory and a Wind Advisory for Jackson County, warning residents of potentially hazardous conditions over the next two days.

The Cold Weather Advisory remains in effect until 9 AM PST Wednesday, with temperatures expected to drop between 13 and 23 degrees Fahrenheit. The affected areas include Rogue River, Central Point, Medford, Ashland, Jacksonville, Shady Cove, Eagle Point, and surrounding regions. Officials warn that prolonged exposure to these temperatures can lead to hypothermia and other cold-related health risks.

Following this, a Wind Advisory will take effect from 10 PM Wednesday to 9 AM PST Thursday, affecting areas south of Medford, including Phoenix, Talent, Ashland, and nearby foothills. Southeast winds are forecasted to reach 20 to 30 mph, with gusts up to 45 mph. These conditions could cause power outages, falling tree limbs, and hazardous travel, particularly for high-profile vehicles.

Safety Precautions

Authorities recommend that residents take the following precautions:

• Wear appropriate clothing, including hats and gloves, when outdoors.

• Secure loose outdoor objects to prevent wind-related damage.

• Exercise caution while driving, especially in areas prone to strong winds.

• Keep pets indoors as much as possible and ensure outdoor animals have adequate shelter.
