Stabbing in West Medford Leads to Arrest and Attempted Murder Charges

Medford, Oregon- On December 26, 2024, at approximately 5:59 PM, Medford Police Department (MPD) officers responded to the 1000 block of Beatty Street following a report of a stabbing incident. Upon arrival, officers discovered a male victim on the front porch suffering from multiple severe lacerations to his head, neck, and arms.

Officers provided initial medical aid to control significant bleeding until Medford Fire and Mercy Flights personnel arrived to take over emergency care. The victim was then transported to a local hospital, where he underwent surgery and is currently listed in stable condition in the intensive care unit.

According to the victim’s female roommate, the attacker, identified as 24-year-old Marzelle Omari Tyree Culver, entered the residence uninvited, took a sword from a wall display, and attacked the male victim. The female roommate reported that Culver then attempted to attack her before she managed to escape to another room. Culver fled the residence shortly after.

MPD officers, with assistance from Medford Fire personnel and local residents, tracked down Culver near Riverside Avenue and 10th Street. He was taken into custody without resistance. During an interview with detectives, Culver admitted to the attack and stated his intent was to kill the victim, citing a dispute over being told he was no longer welcome at the residence days earlier.

Culver has been lodged at the Jackson County Jail and is facing the following charges:

• Attempted Murder

• Assault in the First Degree

• Burglary in the First Degree

• Attempted Assault in the First Degree

The investigation remains ongoing under MPD Case No. 24-20879.
