


Central Point, Oregon- A motorcyclist died in a crash on Interstate 5 northbound near milepost 34 this morning, December 13, according to the Oregon State Police (OSP).
The incident occurred at approximately 10:53 AM after a Jackson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) deputy observed the motorcycle traveling over 100 miles per hour on I-5 north near milepost 30. Witnesses also reported reckless riding behavior by the motorcyclist.
The deputy attempted to initiate a traffic stop using lights and sirens, but the rider continued at a high speed. Shortly thereafter, the motorcycle collided with a commercial motor vehicle (CMV) semi-truck at milepost 34.
Emergency personnel from Fire District 3 and Mercy Flights responded to the scene, where the rider was pronounced dead.
The identity of the deceased has not yet been released, pending notification of next of kin. OSP is leading the investigation according to a JCSO press release.
No additional information was released by authorities at this time.
The Oregon State Police has identified the deceased motorcyclist as 19 year old Tellez Cortez from Phoenix.
