RCC Hosts Health Care Demo Days for High School Students

White City, Oregon- Rogue Community College (RCC) is conducting a series of Health Care Demo Days to provide high school students with direct exposure to careers in the health care industry. Held at RCC’s Table Rock Campus in White City, these events offer hands-on learning experiences and insights into the educational programs available at the college.

Over the course of six events from December 2024 to April 2025, students from approximately 20 high schools across the Rogue Valley will participate in activities designed to mimic real-world health care scenarios. The next event is scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 4, with the final session on Monday, April 21. Although not open to the general public, media outlets may attend by prior arrangement.

Students attending the events will engage in activities such as creating dental molds in RCC’s dental lab, practicing prescription-filling procedures in a simulated pharmacy, and responding to medical emergencies in controlled scenarios. These experiences highlight the practical applications of the skills taught in RCC’s health care programs, which include:

• Emergency Medical Services (EMS)

• Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)

• Nursing

• Pharmacy Technician

• Massage Therapy

• Physical Therapist Assistant

• Medical Assistant

• Dental Assistant

• Phlebotomy

“These events allow students to explore health care careers firsthand while learning about the educational pathways RCC provides,” said Rachel Ostroskie, RCC’s assistant director of high school partnerships. “Our aim is to inspire the next generation of health care professionals who will contribute to the well-being of the Rogue Valley community.”

RCC’s collaboration with Mercy Flights is a notable component of Health Care Demo Days. Mercy Flights contributes staff, ambulances, and occasionally a helicopter to simulate real-world medical situations, enriching the interactive learning environment.
