Pedestrian Killed While Attempting to Cross Highway 140

Jackson County, Oregon- The Oregon State Police (OSP) responded early Thursday morning to a fatal incident involving a vehicle and a pedestrian on Highway 140 near Dean Creek Road in Jackson County.

At approximately 5:55 a.m., OSP and emergency responders arrived on the scene following reports of a collision. The preliminary investigation indicated that an eastbound Chevrolet Silverado, driven by 44-year-old Anthony Joseph Grubb from Grants Pass, struck a pedestrian, 68-year-old Robert Allen Dishman from Yreka, California, as he attempted to cross the highway. Dishman was declared deceased at the scene, while Grubb, who remained and cooperated with investigators, was uninjured.

The highway remained partially closed for approximately two and a half hours as OSP and other assisting agencies conducted an on-scene investigation. Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) supported OSP in managing the scene and diverting traffic.

The Oregon State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) is overseeing the investigation. The CRU, comprised of highly trained personnel, specializes in analyzing and documenting fatal and critical injury collisions. They employ advanced measurement techniques and small unmanned aircraft systems (sUAS) for on-scene assessments.

Further details regarding the cause of the incident are pending investigation.
