Oregon Voters Prepare for the 2024 General Election

Salem, Oregon- Oregon’s 2024 General Election is officially underway. Ballots were distributed to registered voters on October 16, marking the start of the state’s mail-in voting period. Election Day is set for November 5, 2024, and ballots must be postmarked or submitted by 8 p.m. that day to be counted.

Voters can access essential information, including details on the Electoral College, offices on the ballot, and the statewide voters’ pamphlet, through the “Current Election” page at OregonVotes.gov. Oregon offers multiple ways to return ballots: by mail, at county clerk offices, or via secure drop boxes located across the state. Each ballot is directed to the voter’s registered county for processing.

Secretary of State LaVonne Griffin-Valade highlighted Oregon’s election system, emphasizing its accessibility and security. “Oregonians of all political stripes came together to build our election system, which remains among the most convenient and secure in the country,” she said. Griffin-Valade encouraged citizens to participate actively by making a plan to vote.

A 2021 law ensures that ballots postmarked by Election Day will be counted as long as they reach elections offices within seven days. This may delay final results in tight races, as ballots arriving post-Election Day will still be counted if they were cast on time.
