Shari’s Cafe & Pies Shuts Down All Oregon Locations

Portland, Oregon- Shari’s Cafe & Pies, a long-standing family dining chain known for its pies and 24-hour service, announced the closure of all its remaining Oregon locations, effective today. Founded in Hermiston in 1979, the chain once operated around 100 restaurants across seven states. Recent closures in Oregon include the South Medford location, with the final restaurants closing today at 5 p.m.

The company, which in 2023 received investment from MGG InvestmentI Group to support its 42 Oregon restaurants, has seen a steady decline in its state presence. Despite efforts to remain operational, Shari’s confirmed that remaining locations in Oregon will cease operations.

At its peak, Shari’s employed 4,000 workers, including 1,600 in Oregon. The chain, known for its distinctive hexagonal buildings, had locations in several other states, including Washington, California, Idaho, Nebraska, and Wyoming. As of the closure announcement, only 16 locations remained in Oregon.

In a statement, Sam Borgese, sole managing member of Gather Holdings Guarantee LLC, acknowledged the efforts of Shari’s employees and expressed gratitude for their work. Employees will be paid for their time through the closure, and expense reports must be submitted by October 23, 2024.

Shari’s, once a prominent presence in the Pacific Northwest dining scene, leaves behind a 45-year legacy of service to its communities. The closure marks the end of the chain’s operations in Oregon, while locations in other states continue to operate as of today.
