Abandoned Backpack Found Near Mt. Ashland Under Investigation

Mt. Ashland, Oregon- The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) is investigating an abandoned backpack discovered near the Grouse Gap Warming Shelter, located off the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) near Mt. Ashland. JCSO deputies, working alongside Search and Rescue (SAR) teams, are currently searching the area for any potential clues or persons connected to the backpack.

The Sheriff’s Office has urged the public to come forward if they have any information regarding the owner of the pack. Individuals who have lost a pack in that area or who can identify the owner of the pictured pack are encouraged to contact the Emergency Communications of Southern Oregon (ECSO) Dispatch non-emergency line at (541) 776-7206, referencing case number 24-5698.

Authorities are taking steps to ensure the safety and security of hikers in the area as they continue their investigation.
