Firefighters Work Multiple Fires Along Northbound I-5 in Central Point Area

Central Point, Oregon- Fire crews from Jackson County Fire District 3, Jackson County Fire District 3, and OFF have been deployed in response to multiple reports of small fires along Interstate 5. The fires, located on the northbound side of the freeway, are scattered between I-5 Exit 33 in Central Point and milepost 37.

Authorizes say that firefighters are engaging in an aggressive initial attack to contain the blazes and prevent further spread. Motorists traveling in the area are urged to exercise caution, particularly near active firefighting operations along the roadway.

Authorities are advising drivers to slow down and remain alert as crews work to manage the situation. Additional details will be made available as the situation develops.

Fire personnel have also request law units attempt to locate a vehicle traveling northbound on I-5 that may have been inadvertently the source of these fire starts.

The initial fire that crews arrived at was located near The Expo off I-5 Exit 33. Firefighters were able to halt that fire and stop its forward progress at approximately 1/10 of an acre.

As of 5:15p, there have been no reported injuries or evacuation notices.

ODF has provided the following update:

All fires have been knocked down and are in various stages of mop up. The Milepost 37 and 36 fires are the only ones within ODF jurisdiction, with the two others to the south, closer to Central Point, being in Fire District 3’s jurisdiction.

These agencies will be working together through the investigation to determine the cause of fire for each incident.
