Crater High School Student Found in Possession of Gun

Central Point, Oregon- A student at Crater High School was found in possession of a firearm this morning following an anonymous tip to school staff. The Central Point Police Department responded swiftly to the incident, working with school security and School Resource Officers to locate the student.

The incident began around 9:20 a.m. when the tip was received. The student, a 16-year-old, was quickly identified and found to have a small-caliber firearm. No direct threats were made against the school, students, or staff during the event. However, out of precaution, safety protocols were implemented.

The Central Point Police Department and the Jackson County Threat Assessment Team conducted an investigation. The situation was resolved peacefully, with no injuries reported. The student has been placed in custody at the Jackson County Juvenile Detention Facility.

Authorities from both the Central Point Police Department and School District 6 emphasized that there is no ongoing threat to the community. Lieutenant Abbott, speaking on behalf of the police department, thanked school staff, security personnel, and law enforcement for their quick response.

The school district reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring student and staff safety through ongoing collaboration with law enforcement.
