Douglas County, Oregon- On Monday, September 9, 2024, a fatal two-vehicle crash occurred on Highway 138E near milepost 18, approximately one mile east of Glide, Oregon. Oregon State Police responded to the scene at 6:07 a.m.
A preliminary investigation revealed that a red Yamaha motorcycle, operated by Thomas Lee Bailey, 38, of Idleyld Park, was traveling westbound on Hwy. 138E when it collided head-on with a white Jeep Cherokee. The Jeep, driven by Randolph Lee Belloir, 66, of Roseburg, was traveling eastbound and had turned left into the motorcycle’s path. The collision occurred in the westbound lane.
Bailey, the motorcyclist, was pronounced dead at the scene. Belloir was uninjured and fully cooperated with the investigation by law enforcement.
The crash resulted in significant traffic disruptions, with the highway closed for approximately three hours to allow for the investigation. Oregon State Police were assisted at the scene by the Glide Fire Department, the National Park Service, and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances of the crash.
