

Diamond Lake, Oregon- The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is actively conducting a search for a 37-year-old man who is presumed to have drowned at Diamond Lake on Saturday evening, August 17, 2024. The incident occurred around 5:38 p.m. when 9-1-1 dispatchers received a report that the man, who had been on a pontoon boat with friends, jumped into the lake for a swim. Shortly after entering the water, he went under and did not resurface.
In response to the emergency, Marine Deputies, Central Douglas Fire & Rescue, and Umpqua Valley ambulance services, along with volunteers from the Diamond Lake Resort, conducted an extensive search until nightfall. Despite their efforts, they were unable to locate the missing man.
The search has resumed today with additional resources from the Douglas County Marine Patrol, Douglas County Dive Team, Douglas County Search and Rescue, Klamath County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue, and Oregon State Police. Authorities continue to withhold the victim’s identity pending notification of next of kin.
The search efforts are ongoing as crews work diligently to recover the individual. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
