New Downtown Hotel Architectural Aspects to Be Presented at Meeting

Downtown, Medford- In an ongoing effort to keep the community informed, this update provides new details on the downtown Medford hotel project. The Medford Urban Renewal Association (MURA) will review the architectural aspects of this significant development at a meeting scheduled for August 14, 2024.

The project, initially estimated at over $25 million, has been revised multiple times over the years. Despite these changes, it remains on schedule to be constructed just north of The Commons District, at the intersection of E. 4th Street and N. Bartlett Street. This project aims to fill a gap left after The Inn at The Commons was sold and converted into housing following the Almeda Fire. The new hotel will provide a higher-end lodging experience for downtown visitors.

The revised proposal features a slighter larger design for an 85,732-square-foot, 4-floor Element by Westin hotel, an extended-stay Marriott product. The project began as a 5-6 floor, 100,000 sqft hotel, then was scaled back to around 75,000 sqft and 4-floors prior to this latest rendering. The L-shaped building will be located at Bartlett and 4th Streets, with a designated pull-off line on 4th Street for guest car check-in. The hotel will house 134 keys and include a two-story lobby facing Pear Blossom Park, complete with a bar and eating area.

The updated plans also include flexible meeting rooms capable of accommodating around 60 people and an interior design inspired by Scandinavian modern aesthetics. MURA is progressing with utility relocation and is currently securing quotes for the demolition of existing buildings on the site to prepare for construction.

“Our deal is largely done,” remarked a MURA spokesperson at a previous meeting regarding the partnership purchase and incentives. “It’s really taking shape,” they added.

Medford Alert will continue to provide updates as the construction date approaches.
