ODF Sending Crews to Waters Gulch Fire Outside of Jacksonville

Near Jacksonville, Oregon- Recent lightning activity in southern Oregon has raised concerns about potential new fire starts in the region. The Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF) is closely monitoring areas affected by lightning strikes using a camera detection system to identify smoke. In addition, patrols by engines are underway.

ODF air and ground crews are addressing a potential fire near Waters Gulch Road, southeast of Jacksonville. Engines are on their way, and a Type 3 Helitack helicopter has been dispatched for reconnaissance and potential firefighter deployment if a fire is confirmed. Initial reports indicate the fire is about 1-2 acres in size.

To manage the situation, all firefighters, dispatchers, and additional staff have extended their shifts until at least 9:30 PM. They will continue to respond to fires throughout the night if necessary. The Type 2 helicopter is also en route, and additional aircraft and engines have been ordered due to the fire’s location on a steep slope, which requires a half-mile uphill hike for ground access.

Firefighters are prepared to conduct an aggressive initial attack. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.

Final Update: ODF reports the fire has been fully lined and stopped at approximately 2 acres.
