Driver In Custody After Collision That Killed Pedestrian Near Ashland

Ashland, Oregon– The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) is investigating a fatal motor vehicle accident that occurred last night outside Ashland. A pedestrian, identified as Mark David Langille, 50, of New Mexico, was struck and killed.

The Emergency Communications of Southern Oregon (ECSO) Dispatch received a call on Saturday, June 29, at 9:35 PM, reporting a pedestrian injured in the 500 block of South Valley View Road, with the suspect vehicle still present at the scene. JCSO deputies, officers from the Ashland Police Department, and an Ashland Fire ambulance responded promptly. Langille was transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. The next-of-kin has been notified.

The Jackson County Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction (STAR) Team and JCSO Medical Examiner detectives were called to assist in the investigation. The driver of the suspect minivan was taken into custody, and a search warrant for a blood draw was granted.

Charges against the suspect are pending further investigation, toxicology reports, and a mechanical inspection of the vehicle. The suspect’s name will be released if charges are filed.

The STAR Team includes investigators from JCSO, the Medford Police Department, and the Central Point Police Department.

The case remains under investigation as deputies and the STAR Team pursue additional leads. No further information is available at this time.
