Salem, Oregon- This morning, the Oregon State Fire Marshal mobilized two structural task forces to address the Upper Applegate Fire in Jackson County. The task forces, originating from Lane and Polk counties, were deployed through Immediate Response, a tool used by the state fire marshal to allocate firefighting resources outside of a conflagration scenario. These structural task forces will provide support to the Applegate Valley Fire District.

The Oregon Department of Forestry reported that as of Thursday night, the Upper Applegate Fire was estimated to cover 120 acres. In response, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office has issued Level 1 “Be Ready” evacuation notices for homes in proximity to the fire. The latest evacuation map and further information about evacuations can be accessed through designated links.

“Our priority is to proactively protect our communities from the threat of wildfires. We’re sending resources to boost capacity and support the Applegate Valley Fire District until the fire is contained,” stated Oregon State Fire Marshal Mariana Ruiz-Temple. She emphasized the increased risk of wildfires due to warm, dry weather forecasted across Oregon, urging the public to take preventive measures to avoid igniting wildfires and to adhere to all burning restrictions.
