One Dead After Drowning Incident in Illinois River

Near Cave Junction, Oregon- On June 1, 2024, at 11:53 am, authorities responded to a report of a drowning in the Illinois River at Forks State Park in Cave Junction. The incident involved Zeke Grant, 39, of Cave Junction, who had drowned while swimming at a popular swimming hole accessed from the park. Witnesses observed Grant swimming in the water, but he was later found submerged approximately 15 minutes later. Unfortunately, there were no witnesses to the drowning itself.

The responding team included the Sheriff’s Office, Oregon State Police (OSP), IV Fire, and AMR. Next of kin have been notified, and the Sheriff’s Office has stated that no further information will be released at this time.

This tragic event serves as a reminder of the potential dangers associated with swimming in natural bodies of water, especially early in the year. Despite outside temperatures, rivers can remain cold, swift, and dangerous. Authorities urge the public to exercise caution and be aware of these risks when enjoying outdoor activities near water sources.
