Lebanon, Oregon– Oregon State Police Major Crimes Section is spearheading an investigation into an officer-involved shooting in Linn County. The incident occurred on Thursday, May 30, 2024, at 8:16 p.m., when Linn County Deputies responded to a reported domestic dispute involving a firearm at 29380 Speasl Rd, near Lebanon.
Upon arrival at the scene, deputies encountered the reported suspect, Gino Anthony Marcoccia (49) of Lebanon, outside the residence, armed with a rifle. Marcoccia allegedly advanced aggressively towards one of the deputies, ignoring commands to drop his weapon. Despite repeated directives, Marcoccia continued to approach the deputy, prompting the deputy to discharge his firearm. Marcoccia was subsequently incapacitated and dropped the rifle.
Efforts were made by deputies to administer emergency medical assistance to Marcoccia, but he was pronounced deceased at the scene. Authorities say nolaw enforcement personnel sustained injuries during the confrontation.
In accordance with Linn County Use of Deadly Force (SB 111) protocols, the Oregon State Police has assumed responsibility for investigating the officer-involved shooting. As per standard procedure, any law enforcement officers involved have been placed on paid administrative leave by their respective agencies.
