One Dead and One Injured After Officer Involved I-5 Shooting

Near Albany, Oregon- Earlier this evening, law enforcement agencies responded to a series of events in the Coburg area that culminated in a dangerous pursuit and officer-involved shooting on Interstate 5. The incident began with a reported shooting in Coburg earlier in the afternoon, leaving one individual critically injured and prompting a search for the suspects involved.

At approximately 6:00 p.m., authorities received a driving complaint regarding a vehicle believed to be connected to the Coburg shooting. The vehicle was located by deputies from Linn County and Lane County, as well as Oregon State Troopers, initiating a pursuit heading northbound on Interstate 5 from exit 209. To halt the suspect vehicle, spike strips were successfully deployed, causing the vehicle to crash along the shoulder of the highway.

During the subsequent confrontation at the crash site, an officer-involved shooting occurred involving Linn County Deputies and Oregon State Troopers from the pursuing units. The driver of the suspect vehicle was fatally injured during this exchange, while a passenger in the vehicle sustained injuries and was transported for medical treatment. No law enforcement officers were harmed during these incidents.

The Oregon State Police Major Crimes Team has taken charge of investigating the initial Coburg shooting. In accordance with the Linn County Use of Deadly Force protocols (SB 111), the Albany Police Department will oversee the investigation into the officer-involved shooting on Interstate 5.

As per standard procedures, any law enforcement personnel involved in the shooting have been placed on paid administrative leave pending further developments, with the Albany Police Department slated to provide updates on the case moving forward.
