On April 20th, 2024, Oregon City police officers responded to a report of a suspicious adult male at Jiffy Lube, located at 13851 Beavercreek Rd. The individual, later identified as 23-year-old Adonai Gabriel-Escamilla, had been previously reported for trespassing at the same location earlier in the day.
During the initial encounter, Gabriel-Escamilla evaded officers, darting through traffic and disregarding commands to halt. Despite subsequent efforts to locate him, he managed to evade capture.
However, when officers made contact with Gabriel-Escamilla during a second encounter, the situation quickly escalated. The suspect brandished a knife and attempted to assault an officer before fleeing on foot. At one point, he sought refuge inside a local business, triggering a significant police response to ensure public safety.
Efforts to contain Gabriel-Escamilla and safeguard bystanders were undertaken immediately, leading to his eventual apprehension after he dropped the weapon.
Following his arrest, Gabriel-Escamilla was transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. The Clackamas County Major Crimes team has been mobilized to investigate the incident, with Gabriel-Escamilla expected to face charges including attempted aggravated murder of a police officer.
Assisting Oregon City Police Department (OCPD) officers during the incident were personnel from the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office and the Gladstone Police Department.
Investigators urge anyone with video footage of the incident to come forward and contact the Oregon City Police Tip line at 503-905-3505, referencing case number #24-007805.
