Medford, Oregon- Jackson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) is set to host its third annual “Soak-A-Sheriff” fundraiser event, taking place this Saturday, February 24, from 10 am to noon at the JCSO parking lot located at 5179 Crater Lake Hwy. Central Point. The event aims to support and raise awareness for Special Olympics Oregon (SOOR) athletes.
Sheriff Nate Sickler and his deputies will take on the drenching by Jackson County Fire District 3 firefighters, all in the name of a noble cause. Donations are encouraged, with all proceeds directed towards aiding Special Olympics Oregon athletes.
Families are invited to join in on the fun, with activities including a kiddie jail, stickers, swag, polar bear selfies, and food trucks such as Team Grilled Cheese and Boba Tea. Moreover, attendees will have the opportunity to meet actor Daniel Zacapa, a Jackson County resident famous for his role as Chief Palledorous in the movie ‘The Sandlot’. Zacapa will be signing autographs and memorabilia from the film, with proceeds also contributing to Special Olympics.
The Soak-A-Sheriff event serves as one of many fundraising initiatives leading up to the annual Southern Oregon Polar Plunge for Special Olympics, scheduled for March 2nd at the Rogue Valley Country Club in Medford. This year’s plunge aims to benefit over 12,000 athlete-participants with disabilities statewide.
In the previous year, Soak-A-Sheriff successfully raised approximately $1,500, and organizers are optimistic about surpassing that figure this year. Funds generated from the event go towards providing uniforms, sports equipment, health and wellness programs, and year-round sports training for athletes with disabilities.
