Josephine County, Oregon– On Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2024, at around 12:24 p.m., Oregon State Police swiftly responded to a distressing incident, a single-vehicle crash on Hwy. 199 near milepost 39 in Josephine County.
Preliminary investigations revealed that a Chevrolet Avalanche, under the control of John Anton Renner IV (59) from Brookings, was heading southbound on Hwy. 199 near milepost 39 when, for reasons yet unknown, the vehicle veered off the roadway. The vehicle collided with a group of trees and subsequently erupted in flames.
Regrettably, Mr. Renner, the sole occupant of the vehicle, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The aftermath of the crash left the highway impacted for approximately four hours, causing disruptions to regular traffic flow.
The Oregon State Police received assistance in managing the incident from the Josephine County Sheriff’s Office, Illinois Valley Fire District, and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
Their collaborative efforts aimed to address the immediate aftermath of the crash, ensuring public safety and facilitating the necessary investigation procedures.
