City of Medford Unveils Foldum Structures at The Crossings Urban Campground

Medford, Oregon- In a significant step towards addressing homelessness, the City of Medford, in collaboration with Rogue Retreat, recently introduced 30 innovative Foldum structures at The Crossings, the newly established Urban Campground. The unveiling marks a pivotal moment in realizing the City Council’s commitment to achieving its 2023-25 Biennial Goals for housing.

Foldum Corporation, the driving force behind this initiative, has installed 30 structures designed to accommodate a total of 60 individuals. This progressive project aligns with the City Council’s overarching objective to implement the Homeless System Action Plan, thereby enhancing access to shelter and transitional/permanent supportive housing.

City Councilors, recognizing the potential impact of the Foldum structures, approved a contract in June 2023 totaling $586,350. Expert consultations with the City’s consultant have emphasized the robust construction and durability of Foldum structures, key elements contributing to the project’s goal of achieving the lowest life-cycle cost at the Crossings.

The Crossings, located at 846 West McAndrews Road, has received substantial financial support, with $2.2 million allocated for its construction. This funding, sourced from Senate Bill 5561, gained momentum in response to the Governor’s declaration of homelessness as an emergency. Senate Bill 5561 targets funding towards programs and services addressing housing insecurity, lack of affordable housing, and homelessness.

Notably, on June 16, 2022, the City secured a new location for the Crossings through a $1 million grant from Senator Jeff Golden. This acquisition has paved the way for the City’s ongoing efforts to enhance the Crossings’ infrastructure, transforming it into a more robust, successful low-barrier shelter. Planned enhancements include the installation of permanent restrooms, showers, laundry facilities, and a climate-controlled community structure.

As the Foldum structures take center stage at The Crossings, the City of Medford continues its commitment to addressing homelessness and providing a dignified, secure haven for those in need. The next few weeks will witness the integration of 60 individuals into their new homes, marking a tangible step forward in achieving the City’s housing goals.
