OR62 Closed for Hours After Serious Multi-Vehicle Crash

UPDATE: The crash has been cleared and all lanes are now open.


Medford, Oregon – At approximately 4:35 p.m. on Saturday, December 9th, 2023, emergency services from various agencies, including Jackson County Sheriff (JCSO) units, Jackson County Fire District 3 (JCFD3), Mercy Flights ground ambulances (MFI), Medford Fire Department (MFD), and Medford Police (MPD), were dispatched to the intersection of OR62 and E. Vilas Road in response to a reported serious multi-vehicle crash. One vehicle was reported to have been heavily smoking after the collision.

As of 6:25p tonight, all Eastbound and Westbound lanes at the crash site remain closed, causing significant traffic disruptions in the area.

The incident involves multiple vehicles, and at least one individual involved in the collision required extrication. In response to the situation, Medford Fire deployed a Heavy Rescue engine to carry out the necessary extrication procedures.

This is a developing incident, and Medford Alert is actively monitoring the situation. Updates will be provided as new information becomes available. It is advised for the public to avoid the area if possible or consider using alternative routes to minimize congestion.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation. As of this evening, three individuals were treated or transported with minor injuries, three others involved did not require medical attention.
