In the early hours of October 5th, 2023, at approximately 2:45 AM, authorities in McMinnville were alerted to an explosion near the intersection of NE 11th Street and NE Evans Street. The incident, which occurred in a quiet residential area, has raised concerns within the community.
The initial call to McMinnville officers came from a resident living in the vicinity of the explosion. The caller suspected that something had detonated beneath her car, but upon closer examination, it became evident that an “improvised explosive device” with shrapnel had been placed or thrown between the sidewalk and the side of her home.
Upon arriving at the scene, officers discovered a small crater in a flowerbed just off the sidewalk, adjacent to the caller’s residence. The explosion’s impact was forceful enough to shatter the passenger-side windows of a vehicle parked along the street and three windows of the caller’s residence. The siding of the residence sustained damage, and a second vehicle parked nearby on appeared to have been affected by shrapnel as well.
Thankfully, no injuries were reported among the occupants of the residence or in the surrounding area. Law enforcement is treating this incident as an ongoing criminal investigation.
Updates on the case will be provided as the investigation unfolds, and further details come to light.
