At approximately 4:16 PM today, Emergency Communications of Southern Oregon (ECSO) 911 dispatchers received calls reporting a serious crash on the northbound lanes of Interstate 5 near mile marker 29.5. The initial report indicated that during a multi-vehicle crash, a vehicle had rolled over, with possibly two trapped adults inside.

As Medford Fire Department and other emergency units raced to the scene, their progress was severely hindered due to the complete blockage of all lanes leading onto the I5 viaduct, caused by the aftermath of the crash. The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) and law enforcement were quick to respond, making the decision to close all northbound lanes of I5 in that area at 4:30 PM, adding to the gridlock.

Several emergency units had to resort to unconventional methods to access the crash site, with some heading northbound on the southbound lanes of I5 in an attempt to reach the scene as quickly as possible. The urgency of the situation necessitated these measures, underlining the severity of the incident. This also impacted southbound I5 traffic near mile 29.5 as well.

Two Mercy Flights ambulances were dispatched to provide medical assistance to those involved in the crash.

As of now, no additional information is available, including the conditions of the individuals who were caught up in this event.

Medford Alert will continue to monitor this crash and provide updates as they become available.

5:30p Update: All lanes are now open.
