Oregon Woman Fights Off Attacker During Unprovoked Stabbing

The incident unfolded on the morning of Friday, September 29, 2023, at around 8:20 a.m., when Portland Police officers were dispatched to an area hospital following reports of a stabbing. According to preliminary information, a woman had been inside the laundry room of her apartment complex when an unidentified male assailant attacked her, inflicting stab wounds. The victim fought back against her attacker but sustained additional injuries during the struggle. The assailant subsequently fled the scene, leaving the injured victim in the room.

The victim then managed to flag down a passerby who quickly provided assistance. The good Samaritan promptly transported the injured woman to a nearby hospital, where she received medical treatment for her injuries and was later discharged.

In the aftermath of the incident, officers collected information about the suspect, including a detailed physical description. This crucial data was promptly relayed to law enforcement agencies, enabling a coordinated search effort to begin.

Soon after, officers searching the vicinity of the incident located a man matching the suspect’s description at a gas station. Law enforcement then apprehended the individual, who has been identified as Isaac L. Woodward, 44 years old. During the arrest, officers seized two knives believed to be connected to the crime.

Portland Police detectives responded to the scene and initiated an extensive interview with the suspect. Following a thorough investigation and the gathering of evidence, Woodward was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center on charges of Attempted Murder in the Second Degree and Assault in the Second Degree later on the same Friday evening.

Authorities continue to investigate the matter to ensure a thorough understanding of the events leading up to this unprovoked act of violence.
