Oregon Woman Struck and Killed by Freight Train

On Saturday, September 2, Salem emergency responders were called to the scene of a woman struck by a freight train at approximately 9:40 a.m.

The incident occurred near the intersection of 12th and Marion Street NE. Officers who arrived at the scene determined that the woman had been standing on the tracks, facing the oncoming train. Despite the rail crew’s efforts to warn and stop the train, the collision was unavoidable as the woman did not move from her position.

The woman was declared deceased at the scene. Authorities have decided to withhold her name pending notification to her family.

The incident also had a significant impact on local traffic due to the length of the freight train, which consisted of approximately 74 rail cars. Traffic disruptions were reported in the area for over two hours as authorities worked to manage the situation and investigate the incident further.
