Motorcycle Crash Claims Life of Passenger in Southern Oregon

A collision between a vehicle and a motorcycle on Saturday afternoon has left one person dead and another injured in Douglas County. The incident occurred at approximately 3:17 P.M. at the intersection of Hwy-38 and Dean Creek Road, prompting a response from the Oregon State Police.

Preliminary investigations reveal that a white Honda CRV, driven by 79-year-old Nancy Jean Funk of Reedsport, was positioned on Dean Creek Road, preparing to make a westbound turn onto Hwy-38. As the Honda CRV began its maneuver onto Hwy-38, it intersected the path of an eastbound Honda VTX1300 motorcycle, operated by 70-year-old Lynn Eugene Kropf of Shedd. In an attempt to avoid the collision, the motorcycle tried to brake and ended up falling on its side. The incident also involved Marilyn Rae Kropf (67) of Shedd, a passenger on the motorcycle, who was thrown off upon impact with the rear of the Honda CRV.

The occupants of the Honda CRV, including the driver Nancy Jean Funk, passenger Rachelle Dora Lopez (44) of Reedsport, and a juvenile passenger, sustained no injuries during the crash. Funk remained at the scene and cooperated fully with the investigating officers.

Lynn Eugene Kropf, the operator of the Honda motorcycle, suffered minor injuries in the collision and declined medical transportation,

Tragically, Marilyn Rae Kropf, the passenger on the motorcycle, lost her life at the scene of the crash.

The collision led to the closure of the highway for approximately 1.5 hours, while investigators worked to piece together the events that transpired. The Oregon State Police were assisted in their efforts by the Reedsport Police Department, Douglas County Sheriff’s Department, and the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT).
