I5 Shooting of Truck Driver Might Have Been Accident

In a recent update on the ongoing Rogue River I5 shooting investigation, progress has been made to shed light on the circumstances surrounding the incident. A close family member of the shooting victim told Medford Alert that several weeks ago, it was revealed that a person of interest had caught the attention of the detective leading the case. This individual was suspected to be involved in the shooting. Authorities went so far as applied a search warrant, to move forward.

Today’s update brings a surprising turn of events, as the person of interest has reportedly come forward, and admitted their involvement in the shooting.

At this time, it seems that this person was not aware of the fact that the victim had sustained a gunshot wound. The brother of the victim told Medford Alert that the person of interest had been handling a firearm inside a vehicle when, accidentally, the gun discharged. The person of interest was unaware that anyone had been injured after the shot was fired.

As the details continue to unfold, it is increasingly likely that the incident may have been an accident. The victims family member told Medford Alert that the individual involved appears to have genuinely lacked awareness of the consequences of their actions, and initial assessments suggest that this person did not have malicious intent.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are working to corroborate the statements provided by the person of interest. At this time, no charges have been filed by authorities as the investigation is still ongoing an active.

The 42 year old victim of the shooting has been released from the hospital and is recovering with family members.

Medford Alert reached out to the Oregon State Police (OSP) for comment. An OSP representative was not able to confirm or provide any additional information, due to the case being an active and ongoing investigation.

Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
