Yesterday, visibility issues hindered infrared flight operations, leaving the acreage unchanged. The fire’s most active front remains toward Lawson Creek along Wildhorse Ridge. While the rest of the fire exhibits moderate behavior, minimal spread has been observed to the north and southeast, driven by dense timber and dead ground vegetation.

Firefighters are striving to prepare Forest Road 3318 (Wild Horse Road) in collaboration with South Coast Lumber. Small burnout operations continue to be executed to slow the fire’s progression and safeguard the nearby communities.
With structure protection being a priority, dedicated groups remain in place to ensure nearby properties are guarded against the approaching flames.
Evacuation efforts are in full swing, with the Curry County Sheriff’s Office issuing a Level 2 evacuation notice from Agness to Quosatana Creek. Furthermore, a Level 3 evacuation remains in effect since July 15 for residents along Old House Creek Road (at the end of Oak Flat Road) and on Spud Road. Curry County utilizes Everbridge to notify residents via phone about evacuation notices.
To keep the affected communities informed, a community meeting is scheduled for tomorrow, Saturday, July 22nd, at 3 pm, at the Gold Beach High School Cafeteria, 29516 Ellensburg Ave, Gold Beach, OR 97444. The meeting will also be live-streamed on the Flat Fire Facebook Page.
As the fire continues to be actively managed, authorities urge residents in the affected areas to stay alert, follow evacuation orders, and monitor official updates to ensure their safety and the safety of the over 900 fire crew personnel working to contain the Flat Fire.
