A tragic incident unfolded on Thursday, June 22, when a woman was fatally struck with a baseball bat at her residence in the 1300 block of Northeast 68th Avenue in Portland. The victim, identified as Kathy S. Green, 64, was found by authorities with severe and life-threatening injuries. Immediate medical attention was provided as she was swiftly transported to a nearby hospital.
Upon arrival at the scene, officers from the Portland Police East Precinct initiated an investigation into the assault. The victim’s son, Austin K. Green-Yurick, 32, who remained at the location, cooperated with law enforcement officials. The Portland Police Special Victims Unit, with the assistance of the Homicide Unit, took charge of the ongoing investigation.
Austin K. Green-Yurick was subsequently apprehended and booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center on charges of Attempted Murder in the Second Degree-Domestic Violence, Assault in the Second Degree-Domestic Violence, and Unlawful Use of a Weapon-Domestic Violence.
Sadly, on Saturday, June 24, 2023, authorities received news that the victim had succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.
As a result of the victim’s death, the charges against Green-Yurick have been modified to include Murder in the Second Degree-Domestic Violence (DV), Assault in the First Degree-DV, Assault in the Second Degree-DV, and Unlawful Use of a Weapon-DV.
This incident serves as a solemn reminder of the importance of addressing domestic violence and the need for continued efforts to ensure the safety and well-being of individuals within communities.
A criminal complaint is only an accusation of a crime, and a defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
