White City Grass Fire Damages Nearby Neighborhood

A quick moving grass fire tore through a residential area in White City yesterday, damaging at least one home and scorching approximately two acres of land. The fire broke out near the corner of Timberline and Avenue E in the late afternoon, swiftly engulfing the area in flames and prompting a rapid three-alarm response from local firefighters.

Eyewitnesses reported a thick plume of smoke rising from the grassy fields. The fire spread rapidly, threatening nearby homes and creating a sense of urgency among residents and emergency services.

Jackson County Sheriff’s (JCSO) had a small area near Avenue E under a Level 3 (Go Now) evacuation order. Deputies went door to door to evacuate residents in the area. JCSO remarked:“This fire could have been a lot worse if it was not for the quick reaction from neighbors, law enforcement, and firefighters. The neighborhood did a great job in listening to the evacuation notice from law enforcement on scene.” Those evacorders have all been lifted.

Firefighters from multiple departments across the Valley quickly mobilized to the scene, battling the inferno and working to prevent further spread and destruction. Jackson County Fire District 3 (JCFD3), Medford Fire (MFD), ODF, and Lake Creek Fire all assisted with firefighting efforts.

Despite the valiant efforts of the fire crews, at least one home sustained substantial fire damage. The blaze consumed parts of the outside of the structure along with some damage to the attic. A number of residential fences facing the field were also damaged or destroyed. Miraculously, no injuries were reported among the residents or firefighters involved.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, and authorities are working to determine its origin. There were several lightning strikes in the area at the time, and investigators are working to see if there is a connection to this fire.

Local authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions as our region enters a period of heightened fire risk due to dry weather conditions and thunderstorms.
