As lightning continues to strike in southern Oregon, ODF says they are keeping a close eye on those affected areas.
Yesterday afternoon, ODF personnel did a reconnaissance mission in a fixed wing plane to check lightning strike locations for any sign of smoke or fire. Crews didn’t locate anything during the flight, but remarked they will continue to monitor those areas.
Thunderstorms appear in the weather forecast through at least today, and ODF is staffed up and ready to respond to any fires sparked by lightning.
ODF says that as the long holiday weekend continues, be aware of the naturally increased risk of fires due to these storms, and help prevent human-caused fires.
