At approximately 4:11p today, Caltrans District 2 officials announced the full closure of all southbound traffic on I5.

This closure is due to hazardous winter driving conditions and several crashes related to the winter conditions. The closure is at Edgewood, just north of Weed in Northern California.
Traveling south on I5 is not recommended as conditions are not expected to improve tonight. Delay travel into California if possible.
ODOT released the following communication regarding the Caltrans I5 closure: Northern California is experiencing heavy snow and severe driving conditions this evening. Caltrans has closed segments of Interstate 5 between Weed and Redding. Travel into northern California tonight using I-5 is not advised. At Caltrans request, ODOT may close I-5 southbound at Exit 14 in Ashland tonight to prevent travelers from entering California. If closures are necessary, ODOT will update this message. Medford Alert will continue to monitor this closure and provide updates as they become available.
