At approximately 5:32p tonight, multiple Applegate Valley Fire (AVFD), Jacksonville Fire (JFD), Jacksonville Police (JPD), and Oregon State Police (OSP) units responded to the 1200 block of Jacksonville Highway (OR238) for a single vehicle crash.


Radio traffic indicates there was a nurse on scene attempting to assist the driver who was entrapped in the vehicle, prior to first responders arriving. The driver is believed to have suffered extensive head injuries and was labeled as a “Code Red” patient. Once successfully extracted, a Mercy Flights (MFA) crew transported the driver to a Medford area hospital. Their condition is unknown at this time.
The singular passenger was deceased prior to arrival, according to a responding law enforcement unit.
Due to the severity of this crash, the Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction (STAR) Team has been active and are currently on scene investigating.
Expected delays for the next few hours as one lane of OR238 in the area in impacted. The vehicle is partially in a ditch and once investigators clear, vehicle recovery efforts will begin.
