Around 6:45a this morning, crews and volunteers from the Southern Oregon Runners club began setting up for their annual Turkey Trot events.
This year, the club featured an 8-mile, 5K, and 2-mile race that runners could chose from. The event was held at the Cummins campus (former Walmart) in Talent.
Runners started out of the Cummins lot, then onto the Bear Creek Greenway before heading back to finish where they started. Nearly 1300 people signed up to run or walk the various race courses.
The 8-mile race kicked off at 8:00a, followed by the 5K at 8:15a, and the 2-mile at 8:30a
Even though it was a cold and foggy morning, everyone was all smiles as they cheered one another across the finish lines. Everyone who completed their event was gifted a metal turkey medal as a reward for their effort.
Michael Maiorano and Jeffrey Hellmann both took first place in the 8-mile race with an overall gun time of 41:44 each. Grant Headley won the 5K race with a gun time of 17:48 and 5:44 pace. Finally, James Andras claimed first place in the 2-mile race with a gun time of 13:16.
The next Southern Oregon Runners event scheduled is the Longest Night Mile, which will take place in Phoenix on December 20. Click here for more information or to register for the event.
