At approximately 9:11p tonight, ECSO dispatchers received a 911 call from an individual stating they had run over a person with a vehicle. Medford Fire (MFD), Medford Police (MPD), Mercy, and Jackson County Sheriff’s Office units all responded.

The incident took place on the 2100 block of Happy Valley Drive in southwest Medford.

As first responders were heading to the scene, dispatchers were attempting to instruct the driver on potentially life saving measures for the victim. The driver stated that the vehicle had run over the head of the victim, and they reported the victim was not conscious or breathing. It is believed that the driver and victim know each other, and may have been inside the same vehicle prior to the incident.

Upon arrival, MPD units closed Happy Valley Drive as Mercy and MFD personnel prepared the victim for transport to a nearby hospital.

Due to the seriousness of the incident, the Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction (STAR) Team was activated. The STAR Team is made up of specially trained personnel from various metro agencies that investigate serious and fatal crashes.

At 9:47p, radio traffic confirmed that the victim was deceased and that the STAR Team was treating this investigation as a fatal crash involving a vehicle.

An extended closure of Happy Valley Dr is expected tonight as there are a number of investigators on scene of the incident.
