Over 230 New Hotel Rooms Planned for Barnett at Stewart Area

After ODOT moved the I5 Exit 27 interchange from E. Barnett Rd, to its current Garfield/Highland location, it left a triangle shaped lot vacant. The empty parcel was the former I5 Exit 27 southbound off-ramp, onto Barnett. A few years ago, the site was readied for redevelopment and put on the market for sale.

Now, the City of Medford Planning Department has received a pre-application to discuss plans of a phased development consisting of two hotels and a future coffee stand, along with a three-lot partition. The site consists of a single parcel totaling approximatley 5.72 acres and is located north of E. Barnett Road and west of Interstate 5 (Address: 545 E. Barnett Road). The parcel is within a Medford C-R (Regional Commercial) zoning district.

This project continues the boom in hotel construction the city has experienced over the past few years. There are at least eight hotel projects in the planning or construction phase, currently inside city limits.

If approved, the project will move to the Site Plan and Architectural Committee (SPAC) for a final overview and ruling. The site is considered shovel ready, so construction could begin as soon as the city gives the green light to developers.

UPDATE: The City of Medford has approved the site plans along with an additional space for a future drive thru coffee stand. Construction is expected to begin in late 2023 for an estimated 2024 opening.
