Three Dead After Shooting at Shopping Center in Bend

At approximately 7:04 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 28, Bend Police responded to multiple 911 calls reporting shots fired at the Forum Shopping Center in northeast Bend.

An initial investigation revealed that at least one shooter was at the shopping center firing shots in the parking lot.

Police believe the shooter then entered the Safeway grocery store through the west entrance. One person was shot inside the entrance. That person was transported by medics and is deceased. Police believe the shooter continued firing through the store, shooting and killing an additional person.

Police found an additional person, believed to be the shooter, deceased in the store.

Initial reports indicate that Bend Police did not fire any shots at the scene.

Officials say this is still an active investigation. Additional updates will be forthcoming.

10:40p UPDATE: Bend Police confirm that there are two deceased victims of tonight’s shooting. The male shooter is also dead. Authorities say he was found with an assault riffle and shotgun. There is also one injured person, their condition is not believed to be life threatening at this time.

Officials say that there are over 100 officers working tonight as there have also been reports of other shootings in the community. Responding police have found no evidence of any additional shootings in the Bend area. Authorities also say that they have assistance from every agency in Central Oregon, and the FBI as well.

Bend Police say that the crime scene is very large and will take a long time to process. Once next of kin have been notified, the names of the victims and shooter will be released. No further information is available at this early portion of the investigation.
