New Market-Rate Housing Planned Downtown

A current parking lot on the corner of Eighth and S. Holly, may soon see new life, as much needed housing is planned to replace it.

The project is named, “Genesis Apartments”.

The proposal is for a 62 unit multi-story apartment building within the urban core of Downtown Medford. The apartment building has been designed through various meetings with the Medford Urban Renewal Agency with the intent to provide work-force housing to individuals and small families that either work from home and patronize Downtown businesses, walk to work within the Downtown core, rely on public transit or utilize alternative transportation options.

The proposal is for a three-story apartment building shaped around a central plaza area that fronts onto Holly Street. The building also abuts a rear alley where electric vehicle charging stations will be provided in addition to handicap parking.

City planners and sub committees will decide if the proposal for the three-story, 39,505 square foot apartment building will move forward. The subject site consists of four contiguous parcels totaling approximately 0.45 acres, and is currently used as a public parking lot.

If approved by the city, construction could begin this Spring.
