Eagle Point Student Cited After Live Ammunition, Firearm Magazine Found on School Campus

EAGLE POINT, Ore. (Oct. 26, 2026) — A student in the Eagle Point School District was cited and removed from school after officials discovered live ammunition and a firearm magazine on campus, according to a letter sent to families and staff by Eagle Point School District 9.

District officials said school administrators received a report that a student was in possession of live ammunition and a firearm magazine. Administrators immediately coordinated with the Eagle Point Police Department and the district’s safety team to investigate the report.

During the investigation, authorities located a firearm magazine and live ammunition. No firearm was found on campus, and officials said no direct threats were made against students or staff.

Law enforcement addressed the incident, and the student was subsequently cited and removed from school, according to the district.

The district did not identify the student, specify the school where the incident occurred or provide details about the citation.

In its letter to families and staff, the district emphasized that established safety procedures, trained personnel and partnerships with local law enforcement helped officials respond quickly to the situation.

“We want our families to know that our schools have established safety procedures, trained personnel, and strong partnerships with local law enforcement to respond to situations like this,” the district stated.

School officials said normal operations are continuing following the investigation, with administrators and safety personnel remaining attentive to the well-being of students and staff.

The district also acknowledged that incidents involving ammunition can raise concerns among families, while emphasizing its commitment to maintaining a safe learning environment.

“While no school can eliminate every potential safety concern, we remain committed to being proactive, prepared, and responsive,” the district stated.

Officials credited the coordinated response of school administrators, district safety personnel and the Eagle Point Police Department for addressing the situation.

The district also encouraged students, families and staff to report suspicious activity or potential safety concerns, noting that even seemingly minor information can help prevent more serious incidents.

Concerns can be reported directly to school administrators or anonymously through SafeOregon, the state’s school safety tip line, by calling 844-472-3367 or emailing tip@safeoregon.com.

“Our goal is for every student to arrive at school feeling safe, supported, and ready to learn, and for every family to feel confident entrusting us with their children each day,” the district stated.
