Eagle Point Teen Who Dreams of Becoming a Police Officer Suffers Severe Brain Injury in Crash

EAGLE POINT, Ore. (Oct. 16, 2026) — A 16-year-old Eagle Point girl remains unconscious after suffering a severe traumatic brain injury when she was struck by a vehicle while riding her electric bicycle on Oct. 10, according to her family.

Stephanie Estrada, an aspiring police officer who previously participated in the Medford Police Department’s Junior Cadet Academy for girls, suffered significant head trauma in the collision, resulting in brain swelling and a seizure.

According to her family, Estrada was rushed to a hospital, where doctors performed emergency brain surgery to treat a hematoma, a collection of blood that can place dangerous pressure on the brain.

Family members said the surgery was successful, but Estrada remains unconscious as doctors continue to monitor her condition.

A CT scan conducted approximately 12 hours after surgery showed encouraging results, according to her family. Estrada has also begun showing signs of movement and responding to familiar voices.

“We know she is with us,” a family member wrote in an update shared about her condition.

Despite those encouraging signs, the extent of Estrada’s brain injury remains unknown while she is unconscious. Her family said she is expected to remain in the intensive care unit for at least a month, potentially longer, as she begins what could be an extended recovery.

Beyond the immediate medical concerns, the collision has created significant financial challenges for Estrada’s family.

Her mother is expected to take an extended leave from work to remain by her daughter’s side. The family is exploring available family leave assistance while seeking donations to help cover long-term medical costs and living expenses during her recovery.

Those who know Estrada describe her as a compassionate teenager with a strong Christian faith and a passion for helping others.

Estrada has long dreamed of becoming a police officer. According to someone familiar with the family, she was at the top of her class in the Medford Police Department’s Junior Cadet Academy for girls, an experience that reflected her dedication to pursuing a future career in law enforcement.

Her family describes her as a fighter and remains hopeful as she continues to show early signs of responsiveness following surgery.

“She is only 16 years old and is a fighter. Please pray for Stephanie!” a family member wrote.

A fundraising campaign has been established to help the family manage medical expenses and the financial burden associated with Estrada’s anticipated recovery.

The family is asking community members to consider donating and keeping Stephanie in their thoughts and prayers as she continues her fight to recover.

Additional information about the circumstances surrounding the collision, including its precise location, was not immediately available.
