Medford Police Take Over Investigation After 2 Found Dead in Rural Josephine County

Shooting Josephine County

JOSEPHINE COUNTY, Ore. (Oct. 6, 2026) — Medford Police are investigating an incident that began Tuesday morning at a property in the 10400 block of Williams Highway in connection with a missing person investigation.

At about 10 a.m. Oct. 6, Oregon State Police detectives were assisting the Medford Police Department with follow-up investigative work at the property when they contacted an individual who later retreated inside the residence and fired shots at the detectives, according to authorities.

The Josephine County Sheriff’s Office and Grants Pass Police Department responded to the scene, and the incident developed into a barricaded-subject situation.

After the residence was secured, two people were found deceased inside the home, authorities said.

No law enforcement officers were injured.

Because multiple agencies were involved in the response, the Medford Police Department was requested to take over the investigation.

The investigation remains ongoing. Authorities said they are unable to release additional information at this time.
