WILLIAMS, Ore. (Aug. 11, 2026) — Williams firefighters got a little muddy Monday while responding to an unusual rescue call involving a dog that became trapped in the mud of a pond and was unable to get back out.
The Williams Rural Fire Protection District said firefighters were called to help the dog after it found itself stuck in the muddy pond.
The animal was unable to free itself, prompting firefighters to step in. With assistance from the property owner, the crew was able to safely reach the dog and pull it from the mud.
The rescue ended on a positive note, with the dog safely out of the pond and reunited with its owners.
The fire district shared the rescue on social media Monday, adding a lighthearted reminder that emergency calls don’t always involve people.
“Not every rescue has two legs!” the district said.
The district praised the firefighters involved in the rescue and said the incident was another example of the department being ready to assist members of the community — whether they have two legs or four.
“Just another day of being here when our community needs us — paws and all,” the district said.
The successful rescue also provided a happy ending for the dog, which was safely returned to its owners.
