EAGLE POINT, Ore. (Aug. 10, 2026) — A mother and her three children, all younger than 10, were killed Sunday when a fire engulfed a fifth-wheel camper in rural Eagle Point, authorities said.
Emergency Communications of Southern Oregon 911 Dispatch received a report of a structure fire in the 600 block of Leafwood Drive at about 12:47 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 9.
When first responders arrived, the fifth-wheel camper was fully engulfed in flames, with four family members trapped inside, according to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office. A surviving family member escaped the fire with minor injuries.
Jackson County Sheriff’s Office deputies, along with firefighters from Jackson County Fire District 3 and the Oregon Department of Forestry, responded to the scene. The fire spread from the camper to nearby structures and into surrounding wildland, but firefighters were able to extinguish the flames before they reached nearby forest lands.
Southern Oregon Public Safety Chaplains also responded to provide support services to the family and those affected by the incident.
Authorities said the fire is believed at this preliminary stage to have been a tragic, noncriminal accident. The cause remains under investigation.
The case remains open and is pending autopsies and forensic identification. Authorities said victim information will not be released because of the nature of the investigation.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office expressed condolences to the victims’ family and friends.
