Central Point Investigation Leads to 50-Year Sentence in Child Sexual Abuse Case

MEDFORD, Ore. (Aug. 9, 2026) — A Jackson County man was sentenced to 50 years in prison after pleading guilty to sexually abusing two children over a period of several years while they were under the age of 12, prosecutors said Friday.

Zach Patrick Moenaert, born Aug. 5, 1994, pleaded guilty to two counts each of first-degree rape, first-degree unlawful sexual penetration and first-degree sodomy, according to the Jackson County District Attorney’s Office.

Jackson County Circuit Court Pro Tem Judge Paul Moser sentenced Moenaert to 50 years in the Oregon Department of Corrections, followed by lifetime post-prison supervision. Prosecutors said the entire prison sentence will be served day-for-day, with no reductions permitted.

The charges followed disclosures by two children who reported that Moenaert had sexually abused them for approximately six years, including while both victims were younger than 12.

The Central Point Police Department investigated the allegations and executed a search warrant at Moenaert’s home. During the investigation, authorities found evidence that Moenaert had used multiple hidden cameras, including cameras disguised as a light bulb and cameras concealed in phone jacks, prosecutors said.

Investigators determined that Moenaert had made numerous recordings documenting the sexual abuse of the children over the years, according to the District Attorney’s Office.

The case was resolved after prosecutors consulted with the victims and their family. The children were spared from having to testify about the abuse at trial, and prosecutors said the victims were grateful for the resolution and the closure it provided.

The Jackson County District Attorney’s Office commended the victims for their bravery and thanked the Central Point Police Department for its work on the investigation.

Deputy District Attorney Terry J. Smith-Norton prosecuted the case.
